Local 2319: The Sandpoint Fire Fighters joined the International association of fire fighters (IAFF) union on March 15th 1974. The founding members of the union were Kenneth Lunde and Loren Kenworthy. Currently all nine career members are part of the union with Kevin Amorebieta as president. Union Sponsored Events: October 31st is always a fun day at Sandpoint Fire. Local 2319 sponsors a Halloween night at the fire house. It all starts with personnel decorating the apparatus floor and setting up booths for trick or treas. Children begin showing up in the afternoon to collect glow sticks for trick or treating. After trick or treating the little goblins are welcomed back to the fire house for a candy check, warm up with hot cocoa, hot cider, and coffee for mom and dad. Along with keeping warm there is plenty of fun with face painting and games to keep things exciting. The union also assists the volunteer association with many fund raising events such as breakfast feeds, BBQ cook outs and auctions. Fill the Boot- On an annual basis local fire departments gather and raise money for muscular dystrophy. This fund raiser is a nation wide program called "Fill the Boot". During this event Fire Fighters stand on the street corners with old turnout boots and collect money which goes to help fight muscular dystrophy. Sandpoint and the surrounding departments have participated in this event since 1995 and collected approximately $5,000-$7,000 dollars annually.
