Help Needed For "Get Lit"

Post Date:11/09/2017 2:34 PM

PRESS RELEASE

11/09/2017 - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

HELP NEEDED FOR “GET LIT”

Sandpoint, ID – The City of Sandpoint is partnering with the Sandpoint Shopping District to support “Get Lit,” on Sunday, November 12. This is an all-volunteer activity focused on holiday lighting in the downtown core.  Volunteers and downtown business owners are encouraged to participate and bring lights, ladders and tools such as a broom or other long handle with a bent nail on the end.

The work party will kick off at 10 a.m. outside the Cedar Street Bridge.  City of Sandpoint staff will be there to distribute unused lights from the former Business Improvement District (BID) and City inventory as the City will be converting all of its lights to LED.  Approximately 150 packages of white lights will be distributed to business owners and their volunteers for use in decorating the downtown core within the boundaries of the former BID.

Holiday lighting was one of the functions of the former BID which was dissolved by the Sandpoint City Council in September, 2017, after a lengthy public input process.  The City of Sandpoint will continue its tradition of lighting Jeff Jones Town Square, Community Hall and the trees on Church Street adjacent to the City-owned parking lot using more efficient LED lighting.

This first year “Get Lit” is patterned after other cities around the region who have instituted similar volunteer efforts.  One of the most well-known cities is Leavenworth, WA, which draws in over 15,000 visitors per weekend to its Christmas Lighting Event the first three weekends in December.
