PRESS RELEASE

11/02/2017 - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CITY AWARDED GRANT FOR DESIGN AT FARMIN’S LANDING

Sandpoint – The City of Sandpoint has been awarded a grant in the amount of $25,000 from the LOR Foundation to support the development of a conceptual design and public involvement process for the Farmin’s Landing property in Downtown Sandpoint.  Located on the bank of Little Sand Creek, this property has been identified as the “front porch” to Downtown Sandpoint.  The property was acquired by the City of Sandpoint in January, 2016.

“There is tremendous potential at this site,” according to Mayor Shelby Rognstad.  “It provides the City a unique opportunity to improve water quality by capturing and filtering stormwater runoff from downtown into Little Sand Creek.  It also allows the City to mitigate bank erosion, provide a beautiful waterfront gathering space and dramatically improve safety by establishing a critical multimodal linkage connecting downtown to the pedestrian bridge.”

Conversations are beginning with adjacent property owners and the City will be holding public workshops in the near future.  This project is a component of the overall Downtown Sandpoint Revitalization.  Funding for construction at this site is yet to be secured.

The LOR Foundation works with rural communities within the Inter-Mountain West to enhance their livability and improve quality of life.
