What is GIS?
A geographic information system (GIS) integrates hardware, software, and data for capturing, managing, analyzing, and displaying all forms of geographically referenced information. GIS allows us to view, understand, question, interpret, and visualize data in many ways that reveal relationships, patterns, and trends in the form of maps, globes, reports, and charts. A GIS helps you answer questions and solve problems by looking at your data in a way that is quickly understood and easily shared.

How can GIS benefit you?
Do you need property information, or a map or aerial photo of your home? The City of Sandpoint is proud to provide you with a new interactive mapping service.
This free service allows the public to view much of our geographic data, including online maps, aerial photos, parcels, property data, zoning, streets, sewers, water system, and other information.
Maps for your mobile device
Take your local map with you. Download and install the free ArcGIS app from the Apple App Store or Android Market.
Once the app is installed you can use this link to open the "City of Sandpoint Mobile Map for IPhone, IPad" or "City of Sandpoint Mobile Map for Android" using the esri ArcGIS application on your device

How does the city use GIS
The city uses GIS to increase efficiency across departments by providing spatial access to critical information. Below are just a few examples:

GIS also provides cost savings to the city by providing the information necessary for Council and City Departments to make more informed and timely decisions.
