From 2005 to 2006 housing costs skyrocketed in Bonner County and in particular in the greater Sandpoint area. Prompted by the increasing gap between household income and housing--both rental and purchase--the City of Sandpoint and its partners commissioned a nationally recognized housing market analysis firm out of Denver, Colorado to do an analysis and assessment of the housing needs in our community. The partners that funded the analysis/ assessment were: Idaho Housing and Finance Association, Bonner County, City of Sandpoint, North Idaho Community Services Corporation, Panhandle State Bank, America West Bank, Selkirk Association of Realtors and Coldwater Creek. The analysis/ assessment makes recommendations for community action. Among the recommended steps are the creation of a county wide task force and the creation of an Employers Assisted Housing Coalition and a non-profit housing association. |
