Sandpoint’s
public art collection has grown again, by precisely 36,000
square inches! Ten sidewalk paintings were
completed during the spring of 2007 to coincide with the opening
of Art Walk 1 on June 22nd. The
sidewalks are united by a spring and summer in Sandpoint
theme, to view them stroll through Farmin Park! Participating
Artists included: Dorothy Modafferi, Gail Lyster, Gretchen
Heller, Tammy Farmin, Rory McCambly, Heather Guthrie, Joan
Bramblee, Lisa VanDerKaar, Kate Lyster and Nick Bopp.
Sandpoint’s
Arts Commission extended invitations to local artists in April,
promoting the pilot program as an opportunity for artists to
have fun, enjoy increased public awareness of their names and
art styles, and to show the public and the business community
how art can be in fact, “beneath” them.
With the paintings completed, the Arts Commission is
hopeful that downtown businesses will join the partnership to
solicit and fund more sidewalk paintings in the downtown
business district.
Funding
for the paintings at Farmin Park was provided by local
contributions to Sandpoint’s Art by the Inch Fund. For more
