CANDIDATE FILING: The last day for candidates to file declaration of candidacy was Friday, September 4, 2009 at 5:00 p.m.  Persons who miss this deadline have until October 20th to file a Declaration of Intent to run as a write-in candidate. 

CAMPAIGN FINANCE REPORTING:  Idaho Code 50-477 provides that Idaho campaign disclosure statutes apply to elections for mayor and council members in cities over 5,000 population.  Candidates are required to file Appointment and Certificate of Political Treasurer form before contributions may be received or expenditures made on behalf of a candidate.     The political treasurer can be an individual registered to vote or a candidate may serve as his or her own political treasurer.  A candidate packet is available at the city clerk’s office that includes declaration of candidacy forms and campaign finance disclosure forms. 

QUALIFIED ELECTOR FOR CITY ELECTIONS:   A qualified elector is anyone who has registered to vote and has resided within the city limits at least 30 days prior to the election.  

VOTER REGISTRATION:  Anyone who is 18 years of age, a resident within the City of Sandpoint can register to vote.  You can register at City Hall, 1123 Lake Street, or at the Bonner County Courthouse at 215 North First Avenue.  In order to register to vote you must have a photo ID, either a driver’s license or State issued identification card.  If the address on the photo ID is not your current address, you must show proof of current residence such as a copy of a utility bill or bank statement.  The deadline for registering to vote at the polls closes October 9th.  Following that date, you may register and vote absentee until November 2, 2009.  You may also register and vote at the polling place on Election Day, November 3, 2009.  The city’s polling place is City Hall, 1123 Lake Street.  Polls will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.  

ABSENTEE VOTING:  Any qualified elector may vote absentee from the time the ballots are available until 5:00 p.m. on November 2nd, the day before election.  Absentee voting is now available starting Wednesday, September 30, 2009.  The absentee request form is now available on our website.  Click to download.  Please remember to completely fill out the form and sign your name.  The absentee form is to be returned to the clerk’s office at 1123 Lake Street, Sandpoint, ID  83864.  The request forms for mailed ballots must be received no later than October 28th.  The last day to request a ballot in-person absentee voting at city hall will be until 5:00 p.m., November 2nd.  The city clerk must receive mailed ballots by 8:00 p.m. November 3rd
