Email Mayor Gretchen Hellar
Gretchen Hellar was born in Detroit, Michigan, and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. After obtaining degrees in social work and sociology from Michigan State University, she taught at the University of Hawaii and was a Research Associate at the Center for Social Research and Development located at the University of Denver.

In 1973, she moved to Kootenai County, where she became executive director of North Idaho Special Services Agency—an agency with the mission of serving low-income residents of the five northern counties. In 1978, she co-founded Available Hardware Supply (AHS) with three partners. AHS grew to 62 employees in 12 years, with branches in Seattle and Boise.

Upon selling AHS, she moved to a cabin on Schweitzer Mountain, then, in 1993, moved into the City of Sandpoint. She became active in the arts community, serving as treasurer of Pend Oreille Arts Council (POAC) and in the human rights community, where she served as treasurer and as president of the Bonner County Human Rights Task Force. She was the first president of the Kinnikinnick Chapter of the Idaho Native Plant Society and co-chair of the Sandpoint Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee. In addition, she pursued her new-found interests in painting watercolors, sustainable gardening, and experiencing all the joy that living in Sandpoint provides.
 
Email Stephen Snedden
Stephen Snedden is a third generation resident of Sandpoint and Bonner County. After graduating from Sandpoint High School, he attended college at Seattle Pacific University and finished with degrees in computer science and political science. Stephen attended law school at Pepperdine University and now practices law in Sandpoint as an attorney with Berg & McLaughlin, Chtd.  His practice is focused on business and real estate law.

Stephen enjoys skiing Schweitzer in the winter, and during windy summer days, you can find him sailing Lake Pend Oreille aboard his 18-foot Hobie Cat, "Judge, Jury and Executioner".
   
Email Carrie Logan
Carrie Logan was raised in a small farming town in central California and moved, as a young adult, to northern California, where she graduated from college, worked, and started her family. She moved to Sandpoint in 1989. During her work career, locally, as a mental health specialist, she was an active volunteer in the community, including 6 years on the Sandpoint Planning and Zoning Commission, both as a member and chairperson. She has also served her community as a board member of Community Cancer Services and is a current Vice President of the Sandpoint Soccer Association, in addition to being a weekly volunteer at local schools.

Two of Carrie’s six grandchildren live locally, as do two of her sons. Her oldest daughter and her family live in northern California, and her youngest daughter and family live in Washington. Carrie’s husband, Dan, works locally in the construction industry.
 
Email John Reuter

John Reuter, Council President, is a fourth-generation Idahoan with roots in farming and shepherding. After studying history and political philosophy at the College of Idaho, he came to Sandpoint to work with two partners on the Sandpoint Reader, a free weekly newspaper they founded together in December 2004. He works as the Managing Publisher of the Reader and writes weekly about life in Sandpoint, as well as national politics and local issues. 

John is active in Sandpoint’s arts and business community, having served on the boards of the Arts Alliance, Historic Panida Theater and Downtown Sandpoint Business Association.

He was appointed to the City Council in June of 2008 at the age of 24, making him the youngest Council member in Sandpoint’s history.

 
Email Marsha Ogilvie

Marsha Ogilvie was born in Riverside, California, and attended Pepperdine University. Her early work experience included corporate management in both retail and restaurant operations. She relocated to Sandpoint in 1994 and has owned and operated two successful businesses in the downtown area since her arrival. Her community involvement began when she volunteered as a Court Appointed Special Advocate. Shortly thereafter, she became involved with the beginnings of Kinderhaven, which is a local home for abused, abandoned and neglected children. More than 1,000 children were sheltered during her 13-year presidency, and it remains her proudest achievement, receiving Idaho’s “Brightest Star” award in 2002.

In 1999, Marsha founded “Women Honoring Women”, which continues to annually celebrate the lives and accomplishments of local women who have been inspirational role models through either their community service or contributions via arts and education.

Marsha and her husband are now retired and looking forward to celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary in 2010. She enjoys yoga, gardening, cooking, and an occasional round of golf.
 
Email Jamie Davis

Jamie Davis was raised in southeast Idaho and graduated from the University of Idaho in Moscow .  In January 2004 she moved to Sandpoint to accept a job with the Idaho Association of Soil Conservation Districts, an organization that works cooperatively with property owners who want to protect their soils. 

Jamie is vice-chair of the Panhandle Stormwater and Erosion Education Program (SEEP) Board of Directors, one of the SEEP class instructors, is on the steering committee for the Pend Oreille/Priest Lake*A*Syst (Lakeshore Assessment System) program, and is a graduate of the Leadership Idaho Agriculture program.  She currently works for the Coeur d’Alene Tribe in their Lake Management Department and continues to work part time with conservation districts in the Sandpoint area.

In her free time, Jamie enjoys outdoor activities, reading, and gardening.  She frequently spends time with friends camping, hiking, huckleberry picking, boating, and playing in the snow.  She likes discussing issues with friends at local establishments in downtown Sandpoint.

 
Email Justin Schuck

Justin Schuck was raised in Sandpoint and attended college at Boise State University and in Germany. He traveled extensively looking for a place to settle down. He didn’t have to travel far to decide that the place was where he was raised. He is a partner in a local residential construction company, Idagon Homes, which provides employment for about 60 of our community members. He is a young professional and brings energy, clear vision, and a willingness to learn to the City of Sandpoint. He strives to make sound decisions based on fact, not emotion. He and his wife want to raise their future children in Sandpoint, and he wants them to enjoy a safe and vibrant community similar to the Sandpoint where he grew up.
