Wastewater Division
The Wastewater Division is
responsible for the collection and treatment of sanitary
sewage. The division operates fifteen sewage pump stations,
30 miles of sewer main and a 4.5 mgd secondary wastewater
treatment plant. Under permit from the USEPA the city
discharges treated wastewater to the Pend Oreille River.
Biosolids, the result of
dewatering sewage sludge is put to beneficial use by
spreading on permitted hay fields and forested areas.
In addition to the fifteen sewage
pump stations the wastewater collection crew cleans sewer
mains with a Vactor sewer cleaning truck, videos sewer
mains, eliminates sources of unwanted water (I/I) entering
the sewer system and troubleshoots problems for over 2500
sewer connections.
With the installation of the
North Boyer LID sewer trunkline and completion of the
Airport west industrial park sewer only small pockets of
unsewered areas of the city remain.
The Wastewater Division is
staffed by seven fulltime employees.
