World’s first ever public installation of Solar Roadways!

The Solar Roadways Live Cam is temporarily unavailable while the installation site is under construction.  The SR3 panels originally installed are being replaced with the newest SR3.1 panels which are going through final testing and adjustments at the Solar Roadways headquarters just a half mile away.  Updates are available on the Solar Roadways Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/pg/solarroadways/posts/.  We anticipate the new panels will be installed in the first quarter of 2017 – weather permitting.

Location

Jeff Jones Town Square (google map)

Officially opened in 2005, the Town Square serves as a central gathering place for the greater Sandpoint Community.  It’s the focal point for many popular events in Sandpoint including Lost in the 50’s, Farmer’s Market and the Annual Christmas Tree Lighting, among others.   The square is dedicated in the memory of Jeff Jones, former Sandpoint City Attorney.

Solar Roadways Installation

  • Press Conference Video
  • 150 square feet
  • 30 Solar Roadways SR3.1 panels
  • Walkable/bike-able surface
  • Heating technology built into the panels creates a virtually maintenance-free surface
  • Intended to be a dynamic installation that will be updated with the latest product developments and panels
  • Future interactive capability to allow site visitors to change the LED programming

The Future of Jeff Jones Town Square

In addition to the world’s first Solar Roadway’s installation, the future is bright for Jeff Jones Town Square as a hub of innovation.  Free Public Wifi was launched at the site on December 15, 2017 and is supported by Sandpoint’s new fiber optic backbone.  Other amenities such as electrical vehicle (EV) charging stations are also being considered.

The Town Square will continue as a public gathering place but also reflect the innovation and commitment to sustainable practices and protection of the environment – values which the community of Sandpoint is well known for.
